Get Kids Cooking Giveaway!
These days, parents like us allow their kids to spend way too much time with their eyes glued to an iPad. (Hands up – we all know who we are!).
Technology can be a really useful tool, however sometimes we need to spend a little more time thinking up creative ways for kids to spend their time. For me, this is not just about them learning new things, but getting used to doing jobs expected of them as they get older and more independant. For instance, Sunday night is now Miss N’s night to cook dinner for the family. We have been doing this for a few weeks now and she has managed some pertty good meals. We have had sushi (an old favourite – the girl has been rolling these since she was about 3), Hamburgers and Pasta. This being the case, I was pretty excited when we were asked to try out the Get Kids Cooking range.
Get Kids Cooking was an idea born of two mums dissapointed at the lack of cooking skills in kids and the increasing rate of childhood obesity. Joanne Bowskill and Holly Boal both have a love of cooking and creating and utilised their corporate backgrounds to build a great business enhancing the education of kids in the kitchen.
Get Kids cooking provides a monthly subscription with which kids can make some fantastic meals. They include recipe cards and info, shopping lists, some basic ingredients, aprons, kitchen gadgets like a chopping board or whisk and a badge to “win” after aquiring each new skill. They even have a one off pack you can try to get you started. It really would make for a great christmas gift – the gift that keeps on giving (and then you get to eat it all – way cooler!). The girls also have a mobile kitchen and tour schools around the country teaching kids about the importance of healthy foods. It’s a great way to get some culinary education at your school! For more information, check out the Kitchen Kart!
Miss N chose the sausage rolls from the kit for her Sunday night creation, and apart from a little help in chopping the onion – she did it all herself. It was a great recipe to start and although quite simple, tasted fantastic! It made 6 massive rolls and we still have leftovers in our freezer which she now requests for school lunchboxes:)
