About to be allergy free??
If you have followed this blog a bit you will know that Master O has allergies to nuts and eggs. We first noticed when he got a bit itchy when eating. Then one day he had the top off Miss E’s boiled egg (at that point he had only had yolk) and he got really red and blotchy around the mouth and started scratching at his throat and chest like crazy!
Then not long afterwards someone gave him a mini quiche and he vomited pretty much straight away. I then held off on any egg or introducing anything that I knew to be a risky food item until we got him tested. It turns out he was allergic to egg, peanuts, cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts and pecans. As well as Rye and Timothy grasses – fabulous when you live on acreage! But thankfully, as far as allergies go we had it easy. Hats off to those dealing with wheat/dairy/soy. I figure they would be much more difficult!
The next year he was tested, the grasses had disappeared. Hazelnuts, pecans and walnuts had cleared. Peanuts and cashews were still there but definitely lower. Eggs had dropped enough to introduce eggs again in baked goods as long as it wasn’t a quiche or contain a majority egg.
So no doubt when we went for this years visit we were hoping for further improvement. Hurrah!
This poor little arm is the sign of good things! Grasses are back (weird but ok), slight reaction to dust mite. All nuts except for peanuts are gone. Peanuts are insignificant enough to try a challenge (two weeks of introducing him to tiny amounts of peanut butter getting incrementally bigger each day). If that is successful then we can try the same with the egg white.
Big yays and fingers crossed for us please. We’ll report back after Christmas with how it all went!
