Handy Homework and Organisation Station!
If you are anything like me, you know there is nothing like a good list. Being organised is really important to me and helps my household run like clockwork (well, most of the time!). In our new rented place there is a distinct lack of space. Any space – no wardrobes, no pantry space, no extra rooms. The dining table does double and triple duties and ends up being part breakfast table, dinner table, homework desk, craft space and regular dumping ground.
This prompted me to get a bit crafty and create a Homework and Organisation Station. It’s a little collection of magnetic bard, notespace, clipboards and other stationary must-haves that ensures we have spot for all those little things that tend to get lost when kids are around. Things like library books, homework, project assignments, school notes etc etc. The list goes on (and no, I don’t just stick them on the fridge because mine is Stainless Steel and I don’t want it scratched by all those magnets!!).
I headed out to Officeworks (God how I love a stationary store!) and picked up the following:
- A magnetic whiteboard and extra magnets
- 2 x mini clipboards (so super cute!)
- A white stationary organiser thingy with drawers and space for folders or books
- A Pack of clear A4 display folders
The space I chose for my Organisation Station is basically the most used part of our house. It’s in the kitchen, next to the fridge and right in the juntion of the hallway, dining room and laundry. The whole things hangs on the wall and sits atop my mini basket pantry (which I had to create due to lack of regular pantry storage…tell you about that later). Being right next to the fridge gives a little extra space for notes to be stuck up if we need it (with blue tack of course!). Mucho helpful these past few weeks for the School Holiday Planners! I also have the daily schedule for our Au Pair stuck up here.
I laid out my boards on the floor and worked out how I wanted it all to look before I hung it on the wall. I just used those 3M sticky hooks (my absolute favourite household item!) and added an extra one to the bigger magnet board, just to be sure it wasn’t going to fall off. I took it back off the wall to measure and hang the twine at the bottom – its the perfect place to peg up the latest artworks that come home! I used leftover pegs from my Advent Calendar for that job. The mini clipboards hold my monthly menu planner and the library cards and book receipts (so we can be totally sure we have all books to be returned!).
The white stationary cube became home to new pencils and erasers (especially for doing homework – you have NO IDEA how fast they go missing!), coloured pencils and textas and an assortment of magnets, pegs and whiteboard markers from Daiso ($2.80 for a pack of 5 – can’t beat that – They have funky colours and all!). The clear folders hold homework sheets, project assigments and home reader sign off sheets as well as Library Books. This sits next to my Charging Station and the whole thing looks awesome, is totally functional and keeps all the crap off the dining room table and out of the way.
Its been a great idea creating this little gem and it wasn’t too expensive either. If you and your kids need a bit more organisation in your lives then this is definitly a go-to project for you!
